Caruaru Strategic Projects Secretariat receives visit from OFG: airport project
The Caruaru City Council, through the Secretariat for Strategic Projects (SEPE), welcomed a delegation from the European business group Oporto Forte Group, along with other companies already operating in Brazil in the same sector, to its headquarters on Thursday (6). The business group, which has more than 30 years of experience in several countries, including ports and airports in Brazil, was in Caruaru to get a closer look at the city's airport, with the aim of adding solutions to air cargo logistics operations, logistics hubs, and other services.
The delegation was received by Pedro Augusto Cavalcanti, Secretary of Strategic Projects for Caruaru, and included Sérgio Casto (CEO of Oporto Forte Group), Sérgio de Paula (Business Developer Brazil for Oporto Forte Group), Flávio Matos (CEO of Vitória Capital Invest), Márcio Petrillo (Legal Advisor for Vitória Capital Invest), Paulo Oliveira (Director of the Via Fort Construction and Development Group), and Estevan Lins (Partner at Lins Neves Advocacia). During the meeting, Secretary Pedro Augusto presented the municipality's various strategic projects and learned about the cargo logistics solutions and cutting-edge technologies offered by the group, which are already being implemented as state-of-the-art solutions in major cities around the world, including Brazil. The secretary explained about Caruaru airport and, after the meeting, the delegation went to see the equipment in situ.
“This meeting is the result of all the work we have been doing with the airport, so that we can soon implement air cargo logistics, providing support for flights to São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Fortaleza and other places, as cargo transport generates these connections. Mayor Rodrigo Pinheiro also welcomed the delegation and we presented Caruaru as a new development hub for the Northeast, showcasing the cargo capacity we have here in Caruaru and the surrounding region, enabling the export logistics for products manufactured and produced in the city and region," emphasised Pedro Augusto.
The secretary also emphasised the importance of investing in exports directly from Caruaru airport. ‘One of our tasks is to encourage exports directly from Caruaru airport, without having to send them to São Paulo, because today it is São Paulo that handles exports, for example,’ he said.
“We are grateful for the warm welcome we received in Caruaru from Mayor Rodrigo Pinheiro and Secretary Pedro Augusto. We had the opportunity to visit the airport and all the adjacent land, which allowed us to see the enormous potential of the airport expansion project and the creation of a logistics hub. This project will enable Caruaru to leverage its position as an important logistics centre and also attract international partners to the city,” said Sérgio Castro, CEO of Oporto Forte Group.
